History

The first worship service of New Hope Christian Church was held at the Senior Citizen's building at the corner of N. E. 6th and E. Vantrees on September 23, 1979.  The attendance on this glorious day was, 12 in Sunday School and 123 for Morning Worship lead by minister Bob Braziel. The church was legally incorporated on November 13, 1979.  A contest was held to select a name for the new church, after many fine entries a name of New Hope was determined to be the most appropriate name.

The first major purchase by the church was $950 Kimball piano from Crimm's in Shoals, IN.  The piano was paid for by individuals and families agreeing to purchase individual keys.

By November 1979, it was time for the new church to consider the acquisition of a permanent building site.  The board of men agreed to consider the purchase of a plot of land on Bixler Road from Roscoe McCracken.  A congregational vote to purchase the 7.7 acres was successful on Dec, 1 1979.

Easter Sunday  April 6, 1980, a ground breaking ceremony was held on the newly purchased property.  The new church building was designed to be 104' x 52' with a cost of about $200,000.  The entire project would have been impossible if it were not for the time and talent of many men and women who gave tirelessly to see the project to it's completion.  The first worship service held in the new sanctuary  was on Sunday December 21, 1980.

After a few years of continual growth a new building expansion was needed.  Thus in the fall of 1986 an addition was started that would add 100 seats to the sanctuary, 10 new classrooms, and new office space.
